Tasmania is one of the last two places in Australia (with the Northern Territory) where the public can still buy and fire consumer fireworks — on Cracker Night, under a Service Tasmania permit. Our sister business Tas Crackers is Tasmania’s only locally owned cracker night supplier.

Fireworks in Tasmania — the questions we get asked
Are fireworks legal in Tasmania?
Yes — professional fireworks displays are legal in Tasmania when they are designed and fired by a licensed pyrotechnician with the right permits, notifications and exclusion zones. MaxFX holds those licences and handles the paperwork for you. Members of the public can only buy and use consumer fireworks around Cracker Night, under a Service Tasmania permit.
How much does a fireworks display in Tasmania cost?
It depends on duration, site, and whether the show is timecoded to music. Small private displays start well under a full public show; festival and New Year's Eve displays scale from there. Tell us your date, site and budget range and we will design to it — quotes are free.
How far ahead should I book fireworks?
For public events and New Year's Eve, six to twelve weeks is comfortable because council and venue notifications take time. Private displays and indoor special effects can often be turned around faster. If your date is close, call us and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
Do you travel outside Launceston and Hobart?
Yes. We are Tasmania-wide, including Devonport, Burnie, the north-west coast, the east coast, the west coast and regional towns. Travel is quoted transparently as part of your proposal.
Can I have fireworks at my wedding in Tasmania?
Traditional wedding fireworks are not currently approved in Tasmania. We deliver the same moment with cold spark fountains, flame features, CO₂ jets and atmospheric effects that photograph beautifully and are venue-friendly.
Do you supply consumer fireworks for Cracker Night?
Our sister business Tas Crackers sells consumer fireworks for Cracker Night in Tasmania and runs pop-up shops around the state. MaxFX handles the professional side — licensed displays and stage pyrotechnics.
